DZ BANK AG, Germany’s second-largest bank, needed a lighting rethink for one of its key branches located near St Paul’s Cathedral in Central London. The brief? A full refresh of one floor, covering open-plan LED office lighting and a comms room, but all without pulling down the ceiling to do it.
The client wanted to swap out tired and inefficient fluorescent fittings for something smarter – LED panels. But there was a catch. Everything had to fit seamlessly into an existing metal SAS ceiling. No ripping things out. No starting from scratch.
Working from the bank’s original floor plans, Mount Lighting created a full lighting design and collaborated with the Main Contractor Peldon Rose project team to ensure alignment with expectations. The goal was to achieve a clean, minimal finish that complemented the space without overpowering it.
To support the bank’s ESG commitments and its BREEAM-certified building status, energy performance and sustainability were central to the brief. The new solution needed to reduce energy use and environmental impact without creating additional waste. Mount Lighting’s retrofit approach ensured the existing ceiling remained in place and the original fittings were responsibly recycled, delivering significant carbon savings and reinforcing our LumEcycle promise of cradle-to-cradle luminaires.
Mount Lighting needed to design and supply retrofitted LED panels that would slot straight into where the old ones had been. Simple in theory, but tricky in practice. But with our technical know-how and product flexibility we were able to make it happen without any disruption.
We began by visiting the site with the electrical contractor, removing an existing fitting and crafting a custom LED panel and bespoke frame that would drop easily into the existing SAS metal ceiling tiles. No mess, no disruption, just a bespoke lighting solution that looked like it had always been there.
The result? A bright, efficient office that not only looks better but works harder. One that is future-ready and client approved.

The new LEDs cut energy consumption by over 50%, replacing outdated fluorescents with a low-maintenance, high-efficiency LED lighting system. Every panel was pre-built, every delivery made on time, ensuring the install was smooth and straightforward.
What’s more is we did all of this with only six weeks of lead time. The original electrical contractors on the project decided to step away, which is when R Electrical were brought in late with just eight weeks to deliver a solution. R Electrical turned to Mount Lighting, and we got straight to work.
