With so much to consider when designing an office or workspace, the lighting might be the last thing on your mind. However, the right lighting in these environments has the power to transform an interior completely and create an atmosphere that inspires hard work and efficiency.
The last few years have been fantastic for office lighting. We’ve seen installations that are simply awe-inspiring, and have been lucky enough to provide the lighting for projects that have really pushed the limits. Workspaces have also risen in popularity, offering an alternative to businesses who may want to offer a more open approach to their working environment.
With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of our favourite installations…
University of Reading
One of Mount Lighting’s very own! This was an extremely exciting project to be a part of which is exactly why it’s on our list.
We provided the lighting for a number of areas within this beautiful building. The glass-fronted stairwell of the impressive 6-storey Whiteknight Campus is no exception, now home to the huge surface-mounted rectangle on the ceiling of the stairwell. The M-Line Recessed System has also seamlessly integrated into the timber-slatted ceiling of both the computer suites and cafeteria.
In terms of working areas, the library of Reading University has been designed to provide a workspace that emits a focused atmosphere. Offering extensive corridors of books and private reading pods – encourages both learning and productivity.
M-Line, our linear lighting range, has been perfectly suspended on either side of the sound-absorbing panels offering a beautiful environment as well as peace and quiet for those long study sessions!
RocketSpace Offices
Here at Mount Lighting, we don’t just celebrate our own success. We are entirely passionate about architectural lighting as a whole and love gaining inspiration from other fantastic projects. For instance, the RocketSpace Offices in London.
LOM architecture and design was approached by RocketSpace to help with the design of their London offices. As the building was built in the 1980s, a utilitarian workplace design has been used to utilise the original concrete frame.
The result is a practical space that includes exposed services, clean lines, steel and concrete with accent colours. All of which is complemented with a vast range of beautiful lighting that only works to enhance the overall look and the ambience of the office.
We’re particularly fond of the use of LED linear lighting that has been placed in the main area of the building. This smart use of linear lighting helps to create a magnificent centrepiece in the large open space.
The suspended lighting incorporated also establishes a refined and honest interior that accompanies the utilitarian design perfectly. With so many positives it was impossible for this to not be included in the list!
Car Finance 247 Headquarters
Another of our favourite installations from this year is the project we completed for the Car Finance 247 building in Manchester.
For this project we were approached by Spatial Office Environments, who are one of our showroom partners, to supply the lighting design for this grand building. A lighting solution was required across three floors in various areas of the building.
The lighting solution had to be thoughtfully designed so that the optimum lux level could be achieved. This arose as one of the main challenges of the project as there were limited locations where the luminaires could be installed due to the number of steel beams in place. However, we overcame this issue easily and the end result created a truly striking lighting design.
Several of our products were utilised in this project, including our M-Line surface and suspended lighting, the Suspended Halo and we also used our M-Line custom shapes to create a suspended hexagon lighting feature. This bespoke linear lighting really finished the look of the room, the exceptional lighting design fits seamlessly with the overall interior design of the space.
Baker Mckenzie Office
A stunning project completed this year, KKS Savills implemented this conceptual design for the second-largest international law firm – Baker McKenzie.
Moving from predominantly fixed cellular offices to an open-plan environment has provided a wealth of work settings. The design plays on the open-plan, dividing sections by acoustics and planting, pinwheels with collaboration tables, and clusters with low dividing screens.
Again, linear lighting has been chosen to light the way for this project, creating a spectacular look for walkways and other areas. This choice of lighting works well to highlight the space without forgetting about the smaller, divided sections.
The profile of the lighting matches their branding, helping to create a seamless look throughout. This is a service that we can also offer – there are 16 colour options available for our M-Line linear lighting range.
JLL NXT Offices
A simply beautiful project we completed earlier this year was the pitch room for JLL. Tetris joined JLL to co-design the interior of the innovative JLL NXT studio in London.
To accompany the look and feel of the pitch room, we were challenged to design a lighting system that created a stunning finish in the space. To match the interior design of the JLL pitch room, we provided a bespoke M-Line Recessed Mounted System.
Our linear lighting solution really added to the overall look of the pitch room. The custom-shaped lighting gives the space an interesting focal point that simultaneously fits with the other design features of the room.
The Frames Building
Another brilliant office design from London, The Frames Building offers a flexible working space for businesses. The design by Squire & Partners is influenced by the characteristics of the surrounding south Shoreditch Conservation area – utilising a palette of brick, metal and glass.
The raw industrial finish of the building offers a striking aesthetic. By contrast, the interior inspires relaxation and comfort. Suspended lighting has been used throughout the property keeping the space looking stylish and modern while also keeping with the industrial aesthetic.
