Moco Museum, an independent contemporary art museum, has recently expanded from its Amsterdam roots to Marble Arch, London. Renowned for its modern and contemporary art collections, the museum’s mission is to inspire through striking pieces displayed in spaces that merge tradition with innovation. The new space, brought to life by Archer Humphreys Architects and interior fit-out specialists OD Group, needed to merge the building’s exterior traditional architecture with a sleek, contemporary look while creating a comfortable and immersive experience for visitors.
Bringing light to art is no simple task. For Moco Museum, the challenge lay in integrating modern, flexible track lighting into a heritage building while maintaining its iconic character.
A comprehensive lighting package, including Casambi lighting controls through to emergency lighting, was required across all gallery spaces that would enhance the experience for visitors, all whilst working towards a tight deadline to ensure the museum could be open in time for summer tourists. Working closely with lighting designers Hoare Lea and the project contractors, Mount Lighting delivered a flexible, high-performance track lighting system that blended beautifully into Moco Museum’s refined interiors.
Mount Lighting’s solutions did more than light the space; they elevated the experience. Casambi wireless controls means the Moco team can adapt effortlessly to future updates, ensuring the museum evolves as dynamically as its exhibitions.
Our Casambi-enabled, zoomable spotlights were chosen for their versatility and sleek design. Integrated into the Multi-Track Lighting System, the spotlights discreetly conceal the control gear while delivering adjustable illumination – perfect for artwork of varying sizes and shapes.
A versatile three-circuit track lighting solution from Stucchi, perfect for task and accent lighting in offices, galleries, display areas, and libraries. With surface, suspended, and recessed mounting options, along with customisable connectors and colour-coordinated accessories, it offers flexibility for both linear and geometric designs.
Offering a tilt angle of up to 30 degrees and multiple beam angles, these LED downlights ensured focused yet comfortable lighting across gallery spaces.
Casambi wireless technology provided Moco with a dynamic, user-friendly lighting control system. Museum staff now have complete flexibility to adjust lighting on-site, catering to new exhibitions and shifting artwork placements without the need for timely or costly external support.
For subtle highlights and even light distribution, LED strips – housed in sleek aluminium profiles – added a professional finish to the space.
Louie Collinson, Technical Services Manager at OD Interiors, highlighted the successful input Mount Lighting had in the project: “Mount Lighting were a key partner on this project, collaborating seamlessly from the initial design phase through to commissioning. Their extensive product knowledge and expertise with the Casambi lighting control system were invaluable in delivering the right solution for Moco Museum. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again – in fact, they are already developing the lighting design for my current project at Buckinghamshire New University!”
Mount Lighting’s expertise and adaptable solutions brought Moco Museum’s vision to life. With adjustable lighting, flexible controls and future-ready design, the museum is now perfectly lit to inspire, today and tomorrow.
