Shoal Group Head Office, Luton

Shoal Group’s new head office at Butterfield Business Park in Luton marks a significant milestone in the company’s evolution. Following the merger of two established businesses, Shoal Group set out to create a centralised facility that would unite diverse teams, enhance collaboration, and support future growth. The project required a bespoke lighting solution, including LED office lighting that aligns with current office lighting regulations.

The result is an 85,000 sq. ft space, comprising 15,000 sq. ft of contemporary office space and 70,000 sq. ft of high-tech warehousing, brought to life through a close collaboration between Shoal Group, Habit Action, Concept M&E, and Mount Lighting.

From the start, the ambition was clear: bring together multiple business cultures under one roof, create an environment where people want to work, and make a lasting impression on clients, partners, and employees alike. Suspended lighting and LED linear lighting played a key role in achieving that.

Shoal Group’s new headquarters needed lighting that worked hard in every sense, from making a bold first impression in shared spaces, to creating the right conditions for focused work and easy collaboration. That meant statement lighting in the reception and communal areas. Functional, well-placed task lighting across the open-plan offices. Emergency lighting design in key areas. Integrated acoustic lighting in large meeting rooms. Emergency fittings where they mattered. And everything built around energy efficiency to help hit their BREEAM Excellent target. No fluff. Just a smart, well-lit space that feels as good as it looks.

Project Conclusion

Shoal Group’s new headquarters is more than just a workplace – it’s a clear signal of where the business is heading. A smart, confident space that unites people, culture, and capability under one roof. And bespoke lighting played a vital part in that transformation. From the striking hexagon light feature in reception to the considered LED linear lighting systems in open-plan areas, every fitting was chosen to support the way people work, and feel, in the space. It’s functional. It’s collaborative. It looks great. And it works brilliantly.

We worked closely with Concept M&E and Habit Action to keep everything running smoothly, adapting when needed, designing with detail, and delivering lighting that does exactly what it should. The result was a full lighting design service, including Relux calculations and considerations for office lighting regulations. No overcomplication. No corner-cutting. Just a workplace-ready lighting scheme, built for now and for what’s next.

“Mount Lighting are always reliable, innovative, and easy to work with. They’re our go-to supplier for lighting.”
