At Mount Lighting, our team of specialists were thrilled to be involved in the lighting supply for Springer Nature Campus.  The project was booked by facility management company SPIE UK, with our client, electrical contractors SLD Lighting and their Project Manager, who did a fantastic job managing the project.

The campus already had in place an outdated fluorescent installation, which needed a complete replacement before the phase-out of T5 & T8 fluorescent tube lighting due in September 2023.  Our experts designed and made a fully bespoke LED lighting system to replace the older fluorescent light fittings for sustainable, non-hazardous and low-energy installation.  The pre-existing luminaires used Simmtronic PIRS as presence detectors/sensors, which we retained as they are highly beneficial for energy efficiency.  We were able to reuse these energy-saving devices, by retrofitting them into our modern, energy-efficient LED lights which saved on wasted resources and will work well.

During the lighting design stage of the project, the client had some specific requests.  They wanted surface-mounted linear LED in continuous lengths and suspended continuous lengths with direct & indirect illumination. Both surface and suspended systems needed DALI control, 4000K colour temperature in white operation, RAL9006 silver finish, and a rolling installation program to suit the phased swap out of fluorescent to LED Lighting.

Our bespoke LED lighting supply, combined with SLD Lighting’s project management skills and experience, resulted in a prompt finish that best suited the space and met the client’s requirements.

Project Conclusion

Having replaced the outdated and hazardous fluorescent installation with our LED luminaires, together with SLD Lighting and Project Manager Mark Stuckey, we have ensured the building is now operating at 80% more energy efficiency, helping to create a more sustainable building now and in the future, while hitting Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive regulations. These sustainability and energy efficiency benefits, including money savings, will only continue to increase as the phases of the retrofit roll out.
